1) Alice’s Tea Cup
It’s Always Tea Time
Alice’s Tea Cup is the embodiment of all of my favourite things! This quaint café on the upper west side perfectly alludes to the sense of whimsical wonderment first created by Lewis Carroll in his book Alice and Wonderland. To my delight the theme was fully carried through in the décor and like all good tea parties the tea was excellent!
Why is a raven liking a writing desk?
The tea menu was extensive, pages and pages of choice although it was hardly necessary as we both instantly picked The Mad Hatter’s Tea. How could you pick anything else?

My friend Anj and I dropped in with the intention of having a light snack as we already had lunch plans downtown (despite us having no money at all… more on that later), needless to say I probably ate my entire recommended daily allowance in this one sitting, but it was worth it! I ordered French toast with berries… I will let a picture of this beauty speak for itself!

2) The Yale Club
Ain’t no party like a rooftop party!

Or in this case a rooftop breakfast. Summer or winter the rooftop terrace at The Yale Club does not disappoint. Having previously stayed in The Yale Club I was keen to revisit and order my all time favourite smoked salmon bagel or lox as they call it stateside.

Breakfast at The Yale Club gives a great insight into the city; it is more packed at 6am than it is at 9 and wearing a sharp business suit seems like an unspoken rule (neat with no denim is the actual rule).
3) Russian Tea Rooms
In the mood for pancakes we decided to treat ourselves and try out the famed Russian Tea Rooms. Opened in 1927 this Manhattan institution become known as a hang out for wealthy Russians and for those in the entertainment industry. Sadly when we went, at 8am on a Tuesday morning, the place was deserted and the mandatory reservation system seemed pharisaical.
Despite the emptiness the OTT and beyond décor was worth a visit. The pancakes were tasty and our waiter, a Russian (for authenticity?) was very pleasant. I would perhaps recommend going on a weekend if you don’t want to be all on your lonesome and do bear in mind it trades on “exclusivity” so the menu is rather pricey!
