Batu Ferringhi

Sun, beach, sun, beach… cocktails!

This about sums up my days spent at Batu Ferringhi. The beach is around a 25 minute drive from Georgetown and consists of a long stretch of white sand, a stream of big hotels, a few beach bars, and a bunch of market stalls lining the road.

Watching Parasailing at Batu Ferringhi

Perhaps Chinese New Year was not the best time to check out this tourist destination as the beach was jammed with locals enjoying their break. However, I still managed to appreciate the beautiful sunset over the hills in the distance and the many water sports on offer were much cheaper than they would be in Europe.

I just had to try it out for myself

For snacks and beers we went to Bora Bora, a lively joint smack in the middle of the beach. The food was nothing to write home about but the setting was stunning, and with a Tiger beer in hand.. who could complain!

After sunset we hit the street market in search of hippie pants and Chinese lanterns. Both were easily found and prices were very cheap, remember to bargain!

Delicious food at the street stalls

On another occasion we hit up the Hard Rock Hotel for some dinner. Word to the wise – the food may be casual but the clients aren’t. Dress to impress.. or at least don’t wear shorts and flip flops as I did! Food was standard Hard Rock food but the band was good and the crowd seemed to be enjoying it throughly. Would also highly recommend a wander around the hotel for those of you who don’t have pockets deep enough to afford a room. The pool is beautiful, with several rooms having balconies with direct pool access.. the rockstar lifestyle seemed to be in full swing for their guests!
