Best Marylebone Coffee Shops
A lot of nights I go to sleep dreaming about that first cup of coffee in the morning. Am I alone on this? What's not to like about a delicious hot caffeinated beverage to start off the day.
In the past year with the multiple lockdowns, going out for a takeaway coffee has been one of the few things to get excited about. Going outside for a run just doesn't give the same feeling. With that being said here is a list of my five favourite take away coffee spots. Based in Marylebone and West Central London as that is where I live. Once lockdown ends I shall expand my search!
1. Daylesford Farm Shop
I feel more wholesome by just walking into this store. Daylesford started as a high-end farm shop in the idyllic cotswolds. Since then the store has won numerous awards for its organic fresh produce and has sprouted (pun intended) a number of stores around London as well as in the countryside.
Their coffee is excellent and if you want to be a bit naughty, their honeycomb brownies are heavenly.
2. Monocle Cafe
I couldn't have a Marylebone Coffee Shop list without including Monocle Cafe. It is a spin off from Monocle, the super slick and artsy current affairs magazine. The cafe itself is minimalist chic and obnoxiously hipster - a no wifi make real connections type of place. Oh please. I'm over the hipster phase, but if you can ignore all that then the coffee is good and the cinnamon buns are even better.
3. Abasto
I love Abasto! I'll admit that I normally go to the Connaught Village branch which is about a 20 minute walk from Marylebone high street but they do have a smaller branch in Marylebone itself.
They have a range of tasty treats such as empanadas and Argentinian pastries. The atmosphere here is always nice and I am forever grateful to them for staying opening during the first lockdown and serving coffee up until 8pm - right before my night shifts.
4. Arro Coffee
Hands down the best matcha latte in Marylebone. I haven't seen their matcha on any other list, but trust me I have tried plenty and Arro's matcha latte is great. This Italian cafe is has a tasty range of pastries including a pistachio croissant. In terms of the coffee it is a bit hit or miss depending on the barista I find, but as I mentioned its the only place that gives a decent amount of matcha in their matcha lattes.
5. Ole and Steen
I normally tend to avoid large chain shops but Ole and Steen is my exception. The coffee is always delicious, the barista art is a nice touch - a forgotten art in these days of takeaway coffee with a lid, and the bakery section is mouthwatering. Their special is the cinnamon social which is delicious, but their Danish marzipan chocolate log cakes or "Traestammer" -excuse the lack of Danish letters - is the real draw for me.
Now that I have successfully shared by sugar and coffee addiction let me know if you try any of these places or if you have any to add to the list!
