Centre Court Antics
A Day at Wimbledon
I can’t believe this is the third Wimbledon that I have written about…
I feel like I just started blogging yesterday!
Read here about last years trip to Wimbledon and our stay at the Shangri-La at the Shard
As I have recently joined the working world (about bloody time I can hear my Dad saying), I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be able to make my favourite summer time event. Thankfully, we managed to get weekend tickets, so all was right in the world again.
After a delay that was double the length of the flight, I arrived in London late Friday night and whizzed through town to our usual residence at the Naval Club on Hill Street.
It has a rather unassuming front entrance, but the hallway is just superb!
Can’t beat a good spiral staircase for dramatic effect.
I had ambitions of joining friends in Soho for the night but by the time I put my suitcases away, all I could think of was my bed!
On the plus side I was up bright and early for breakie the next morning.
This room though…
After breakfast was coffee at Richoux. Is it over priced? Of course! But it is so cute, and for a coffee you can’t really go wrong.
Once sufficiently caffeinated, my dad and I hopped on a tube and made our way to the All England Lawn Tennis Club just in time for the start of play on Centre Court.
I was greatly distracted by these adorable champagne bottles in their tennis ball covers, how clever!
A good chunk of the breaks in the Halep vs Bertens match were spent trying to take a good insta.
Next up was the eventual winner, Andy Murray and John Millman. It’s always fun watching a Brit play as the crowd can get quite rowdy… and by rowdy I mean clap that bit more enthusiastically, this is a Lawn Tennis Club after all.
In the meantime Djokovic was having a hard time over on court 1 so we raced out to the hill just in time to see Sam Querrey win! Very exciting!
Definitely needed some tea after that!
The rest of the day was spent strolling around the outside courts before watching a bit of the Raonic vs. Sock match.
As the sun was going down we went back to central London to my favourite little tapas spot. Seriously, give this place a try, it has yet to disappoint!
El Pirata in Mayfair is always jammed inside but luckily the outside tables are usually free, perfect for people watching.
Yummmm. Exactly what we needed. Until next year Wimbledon!
