Dinner at L’Ecrivain Dublin

I know posting about this incredible food indulgence right after my healthy eating post is a bit weird but it was a special occasion, that’s allowed right?!

Beautiful flowers to start off the night

L’Ecrivain is one of Dublin’s few Michelin Starred restaurants and features on all the ‘Top Restaurants in Dublin’ lists, so I was delighted with life when we booked to go here for dinner.

Plus its always nice to have a reason to put on a dress and heels!

Though… does a girl ever really need a reason to dress up?

Once we entered we were greeted at the door by a very lovely hostess and shown to the bar for a pre-dinner drink.

A few nibbles might have been had..

The bar had a relaxed sophisticated feel, it reminded me somewhat of a hotel bar, which was the perfect set up for the fancy but yet not overly formal dinner that were about to indulge in.

Once upstairs we were seated in the side section of the restaurant.

Perhaps there would have been more atmosphere if we had sat in the central section but I actually quite enjoyed the more intimate feeling of the second room.

L’ Ecrivain offers a full tasting menu but for some reason we weren’t quite in the mood.. perhaps we felt guilty? So instead we ordered from their a la carte menu.

I may have mentioned before that may favourite thing about Michelin restaurants is the food before the food… such a good concept!

Steak Tartare at L’Ecrivain

For our amuse bouche we were served steak tartare. I debated writing this as I am quite the fan of pretending to be a pretentious foodie, but I was terrified of trying it! The whole raw meat thing… I’m just not that into it.

Ready for my close up

However I put on my best French facade and tentatively took a forkful. It was very tasty and I am happy with that being my one and only raw meat encounter.

I promise I shared!

The starters were by far my favourite part of the meal. We shared the risotto and the foie gras.

I love risotto, as in really really love risotto so I was as pleased as pie when I saw it on the menu and it did not disappoint, it was delicious! The foie gras was also excellent, so soft and creamy, yummm!

Delicious Foie Gras at L’Ecrivain

A surprise strawberry flavoured palate cleanser came next, which was great for making me feel very posh.

For the main course we both had lamb.

I know I know we should have ordered two different dishes but neither of us would relent on our lamb eating ways.

By the time dessert was on the cards we were both so full but like valiant warriors we battled through and ordered the chocolate mille-feuille.

Excellent call by us if I do say so myself. It was the perfect texture; crisp and chocolatey without being too thin, in fact as I type this I would really appreciate some more… anyone want to bring me some? Please?

This never happened

Along with our digestive peppermint tea came some beautiful petit fours, which we just looked at and left them on the table… for about a minute then we ate everything. They were good.

Neither did these

Finally after much fun and laughter we rolled with our full stomachs all the way home. Final thought on L’Ecrivain, excellent atmosphere and top notch.. will definitely re-visit for the tasting menu!
