Floating in the Dead Sea, Jordan

Jordan has so much to offer.

It is nearly not fair that Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea are all in one country!

Our drive from Petra to the Dead Sea should have taken between 3 and 4 hours. I may have mis-directed Michael slightly so we took a little longer, but all is well that ends well.

The last 20 minutes of the drive was a race against the setting sun. We so wanted to see it from our hotel but it looked like we were just going to miss it.

We got the hotel in time for the pink sky aftermath of the sunset, but thankfully we managed to see most of it from the road anyway.

After ‘camping‘ in Petra we decided to treat ourselves for our last night in Jordan with a stay at the Kempinski Ishtar Hotel.

I have been to a couple Kempinksi hotel’s in Budapest and Nairobi but this one was something else.

We went for just a standard room but it was huge!

I especially loved the bathroom toiletries which all contained Dead Sea products. I’m still using their body lotion as I find it way better than many of the other brands I have tried, including L’Occitane and Molten Brown.

For dinner we opted for a casual meal al fresco. Most of the other diners seemed to be locals calling down from Amman for the weekend to enjoy a few cocktails and shisha.

The food was good but the atmosphere was what made it, the weather was balmy as opposed to the sweltering heat of earlier in the day, and there was a 3 piece band playing live music.

In the morning I got up early and went for a dip in the pool.

I would go back just for that pool alone.

It is so gorgeous!!

When Michael woke up we went for breakfast and made the risky decision of sitting outside.

The Dead Sea at 429 meters below sea level is the lowest point on Earth. In other words it is a furnace and the only hospitable hours are early in the morning or late at night.

The first part of our meal was great but within 20 minutes we soon realised why we were the only ones outdoors.

We quite literally hot – footed it back to the room to change for the Dead Sea. Once at the Sea the routine is to go into the water for 10 minutes then come out and put the black mud like substance all over you and wait for 10-15 minutes for it to dry.

Once it is dry you jump back into the water and wash it all off. You can repeat this 2-3 times if you like.

I was a little impatient so I don’t think I got the full benefit of the treatment but everyone else I talked to seemed to be newly enamoured with their soft baby like skin.

Sadly, shortly after this it was time to go as we had to return our car back to Aqaba and fly to Tel Aviv. I know I keep saying this, but I loved Jordan and I can’t recommend it enough!
