Island Hopping in the Seychelles
“Island Hopping in the Seychelles” sounds very glamorous and extravagant, and perhaps a little misleading as what we actually did was a one day tour of the Islands, but if you don’t have the time or the means to spend weeks on a yacht cruising around then the day tour is the way to go!
I’m on a boat
We booked our one day island tour with Mason’s Travel via our hotel’s concierge, though only after wincing at the 6.25am start time!
So bright and early before the birds had even awoken we found ourselves on a ferry from Mahe to Praslin the second biggest island in the Seychelles.

From there we transferred onto a slightly smaller ferry that took us to La Digue.

First stop was the coconut plantation. I now know in exquisite detail all there is to know about coconuts but the most interesting fact of the day was that there are only 20 cars on La Digue, 5 of which are taxis!

I also managed to get a snap of the old colonial style house that Tony Blair stayed in when he visited!

Next was arguably the best part of the day. We visited some very hungry Giant Aldabra Tortoises…
So cute! They are very friendly and don’t mind being touched, but it did feel quite weird petting them.
At one point I found myself completely surrounded by these little (ok not so little) guys.
New Friends
After I finally managed to drag myself away from the tortoises we headed to Anse Source D’Argent, the most photographed beach in the world.

This beautiful beach was made famous by a Bacardi commercial, but to be honest I felt it was a bit too popular and I preferred the quieter beaches back in Mahe.

All that swimming and playing with tortoises had us rather depleted in energy… I know hard life, but I was glad that the next stop was lunch back on Praslin.

So after we took another ferry back across we arrived at the Indian Ocean Hotel for a buffet creole lunch. Buffets can be very hit and miss but the food was so tasty and fresh!

Once everyone was full and happy our tour guide made the worrying announcement that we were now going on a hike through the forrest.
Vallee De Mai
‘Hike’ would definitely not be the word I would use to describe our activity… more like a very leisurely stroll with frequent stops so the guide could point out things of interest.
The Vallee De Mai is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the famous Coco de Mer which are known for their fruit which resemble the female form.
Our final stop of the day was Anse Lazio which was voted as one the top 5 beaches in the world.

It was stunning and thankfully by this stage in the afternoon it wasn’t too hot.
