Kuala Lumpur Shangri-La

Memories from my last trip to Kuala Lumpur consisted of great food, copious amounts of shopping, and cocktails on helipads…

Needless to say I was excited to return!

After a crazy hectic weekend in Singapore (read here & here) I jumped on a plane late Sunday afternoon and hopped over to KL.

Once we landed I made a mad dash into town as I had a Punjabi wedding to go to!

I checked into the beautiful and (thankfully super central) Kuala Lumpur Shangri-La.

Praveena had checked in earlier that day and promised to leave out a selection of Punjabi wedding suitable outfits to pick from.

I was super delighted that I finally had a reason to wear a Salwar (had to stay clear of the Sari’s as I have no clue how to wear them) !

I tried all of them on in turn and twirled around the room for ages before eventually going for bright orange.

The wedding was brilliant, totally extravagant and full of bhangra dancing and gorgeous outfits!

Very shamefully we did not make breakfast the next morning as we only got in at 5am so instead when we eventually surfaced we went to Arthur’s Grill, the Kuala Lumpur Shangri-La’s casual pub style restaurant.

We ordered ALL the food!

No seriously, we ate everything!

The noodles were by far my favourite but everything was so tasty. The chicken wings were perfectly crispy on the outside and the satay sauce was lovely and spicy.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of Arthur’s Grill, it was perfectly relaxed with good simple food.

We ate until we couldn’t possibly fit anymore in but then the dessert menu was put in front of us and a pistachio creme brulee with raspberry sorbet just sounded sooooo good!

Such a good decision, I would go back just for this alone.. YUM!

After our epic meal we spent the rest of the day lounging around our room and resting before rallying to go out to the Sky Bar at Trader’s Hotel.

Sky Bar has a terrific view of the Petronas Towers and this place is busy every night of the week.

We met up with our friend Lionel for what we thought we be a casual night but the music was on point so we ended up dancing the night away!

Definitely far more exciting than my usual Monday night..

Following our failure to make breakfast on our first morning Praveena and I made a determined effort to get there the next day.

We sat outside and sipped cappuccinos while munching on croissants and various types of pastries.

Staying true to our lazy day vibe we then sauntered along to the pool.

I’m not going to lie, we mainly snoozed on the sun beds…

But eventually I went for a quick dip!

Working up an appetite for the biggest bowl of Curry Mee I have ever seen!! Seriously the bowl was bigger than my head!!

Praveena thought this was hilarious and decided not to indulge as she was saving herself for the complimentary afternoon tea in the Horizon Club.

I couldn’t quite manage to finish all the Curry Mee, mainly because I was totally distracted by these giant frog macarons!

This hotel really does have it all in terms of food!

We finished off our lovely stay at the Kuala Lumpur Shangri-La by jumping on their complimentary shuttle bus to the mall and then heading over to the Helipad Lounge for sunset drinks overlooking the KL skyline.
