Liebster Blog Award

As a newcomer to the blogging scene I am very excited to have been nominated by Kate Off Exploring for the Liebster Blogger Award!

I have been searching around for a good description of the Liebster Award and thought I would share with you the description from 3 Girls and a Map:

“The purpose of the Liebster Award is to highlight the hard work of new and up and coming bloggers in a bid to shed light on their projects and introduce new readers to their blogs. Through a series of eleven questions each blogger reveals information about themselves that you might not find in the articles they post on their site.”

What to do if you receive this award:

You have to write a blog post:- 1. Thanking the blogger who nominated you for the Liebster Award with a link back to his or her blog. 2. Answer the 11 questions that your nominator asks you. 3. Nominate 5 – 11 bloggers of your own, with under 1000 followers, whom you think are awesome and deserving of this honor. 4. Create 11 questions for your nominees. 5. Display the Liebster Award logo on your page. 6. List these rules (1-6) in your post.

Here are my questions from Kate Off Exploring:

1. What’s your favourite part of the travel experience? Instagraming new (and hopefully cool) photos… That is probably the most unsubstantial answer you will ever see so just to add to it before you think Im hopelessly superficial, I do genuinely love exploring new places and trying to experience somewhere new as if I were a local.

2. If money were no object, how long would you spend at home versus on the road?  Well I am studying medicine at the moment and as much as I like to complain I do quite enjoy it. I  believe that variety is essential and the only sure fire way to ruin something is to do to much of it, so I am happy limiting travel to weekends and holidays as I feel I appreciate it more then.

3. Has any one writer or blogger influenced the way you travel significantly? I can’t pin it down to one person in particular but I really enjoy travel photos so I love blogs that either have a separate photography section or incorporate a lot of photos into their posts.

4. How big is your backpack when you travel? Backpack?? That would hardly be in keeping with the jet set image I’m trying to create. Though in fairness, neither is the enormous 2 wheeled black suitcase I am currently lugging around. I dream of the day that I will strut out of the airport with my Louis Vuitton travel set, but until then I would happily trade my case for a 4 wheeled light weight Samsonite.

Louis Vuitton … Love

5. What’s your biggest travel related fear? Being stranded with no cash or phone.. the first part of that has happened but thankfully the second part didn’t and that’s what saved me!

6. What’s the best meal you’ve had on the road? The food in Penang was delicious… impossible to narrow it down to one dish or place but I did really enjoy the hawker stalls as I found it to be an unique experience as well as delicious food!

7. Have you ever had a travel friend come visit you at home? Nope. Hmmm maybe that says something about me? I swear I do have friends!

8. What’s your favourite bit of advice about travel? Just go. I have had my fair share of disasters from missing flights, credit cards not working, blizzards etc but somehow it all seems to work out and better yet I have always gotten a great story out of it!

9. Which countries have been the easiest and most difficult to travel in? I know the question says countries but I am going to narrow it to cities. Worst is Paris, beautiful and all as it is, there is no denying that its metro map looks like a pile of tossed spaghetti and the Parisians are only too eager to express their distaste of anyone foreign.. or perhaps anyone at all? A few have blatantly pointed me in the wrong direction … no sir I do not believe you don’t know where the Champs-Élysées is.

Best would probably have to be London for being the opposite to all the above mentioned reasons. I may be a little biased in this as I have been going to London since I was a little kid so I know it fairly well by this stage but still, I’m sticking with it!

10. Do you stick to your itinerary, or change it up often? Change A LOT. I spend far too much money at the KLM ticket change office.

11. Why did you start traveling? I started traveling to get away from everyday life, to learn something new and to see something different. There is nothing more wearing than monotony and I find travel to be an injection of excitement. It is something to look forward to and something to talk about, and what better way to start off a conversation at a fancy dinner party than with ” This one time I was riding a yak in Mongolia…”

Me – someday soon

Thanks again Kate for the nomination, looking forward to keeping up with you adventures!
