My stay at The Hotel Brussels

Yes it is actually called ‘The Hotel”.

I don’t know the city of Brussels at all so when it came to picking a place to stay I hadn’t a clue about what neighbourhood to go for. When I saw The Hotel was nestled between Cartier and Gucci I reckoned it must be a nice area.

The location was in fact perfect if you want to hit the shops as it is right on Brussels’ premier shopping street. The main tourist attractions aren’t too far either, with the Royal Palace being a 10 minute walk away.

Check-in went a little awry as they seemed to have no details of our booking and when they did locate a reservation it was for one nights instead of two. Thankfully we had a confirmation email with us, so it was all sorted out quickly.

Our room was way up on the 22nd floor and had a terrific panoramic view over Brussels.

Also there was a box of Pierre Macolini chocolates left waiting for us, what more could you ask for?!

The room was trendy and modern with a white leather wrap around coach and haute couture books decorating the coffee table.

I have mixed feelings about the bathroom.

On the one hand, it was very bright and the toiletries smelt lovely.

On the other hand there was a total lack of privacy as there was only one frosted glass door that swung between the shower and the toilet, meaning the sink area was open-plan with the rest of the bedroom.

Equally if one person were showering the other person would not be able to have a door closing off the toilet. I realise the room is only meant for two people, and perhaps I am being desperately old fashioned but I think bathrooms deserve their own wall.

In the morning we explored the rest of the hotel.

I loved the bar area! How cool are those seats?

The cocktail menu was also excellent, but I may be biased as they served Mombasa gin. Also as a side note, I waited until the evening for my gin and tonic!

There was also an awesome private dining room which you can book out for events, you know in case you ever want to have a birthday dinner in Brussels.

Breakfast was another mixed bag. The pastries were all delicious and I was a big fan of their selection of healthy juices.

But tragically there were no waffles!! How could a hotel in Belgium not have them? My heart broke.. it broke even more when I saw there were no pancakes, or even crepes, and there was only one type of egg… scrambled.

Really for a hotel of this calibre I would have hoped for more choice at breakfast, but at least the view was nice.

To make up for it we went to the panoramic lounge which we had complimentary access to with our room.

In the lounge the haute couture theme continued and there was a selection of snacks and beverages to enjoy while stalking people with the telescope.
