Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz 2016
The Snow Polo World Cup in St. Moritz… I don’t even know where to begin.
I first read about snow polo in the Business Insider, in an article entitled “The Billionaires’ Social Calendar”.
At that point I had no clue what snow polo was, but I saw ‘St. Moritz’ and I was intrigued.
I then saw that the sponsors included Cartier and Maserati, yup – sold!
I convinced my friend Amber that this was a must-see event, so in late January we made our to the snowy Swiss Alps with only a vague idea of what we were in for.
Of course we started as we intended to go, with a glass of champagne…
Or maybe two or three..
Ok to be honest, Perrier- Jouet were one of the sponsors of the event and I can’t fully recall a time when we didn’t have a glass of champagne in hand.
The first match of the day was between Perrier-Jouet and Badrutt’s Palace. The atmosphere was amazing, whoever the DJ was needs an award for his epic music picks.
As a side game we played ‘spot the fur coat’. We gave up when we reached 20 fur coats in less than 10 minutes… it does seem to be somewhat of a uniform in St. Moritz.

In between matches we listened to the band playing Sweet Home Alabama while munching on macaroons… can’t get better than that.
Again with the fur..
We then made our way back for Cartier versus Maserati, and in keeping with the over the top nature of the event, we watched in amazement as the teams were lead onto the pitch by two Maseratis!
No words…
Though some words as I would like to add in that as the teams were being led out, the DJ decided to throw on the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song! Thankfully I managed to catch it in the Vlog.

In the evening it was time to ditch the fur coat and moon boots in exchange for Louboutins and ball gowns.
The Snow Polo Gala Dinner kicked off with a champagne reception in Badrutts Palace.
The glamour of the guests was something else, Amber and I spent our entire time lusting after various dresses.
After dinner the party moved downstairs to the King’s Club, a hotspot for dance floor debauchery with the jet set crew.
In fact, the Jet Setter’s report on the King’s Club included this gem of a tip “skip the champagne bottle service and go for vodka, it’s lighter in carbs.”
More ridiculous than that quote, is that in-between parties Amber and I needed to venture back to our hotel and in true St. Moritz style the only taxis available were Mercedes or Audis.
The plot thickened when the Italian man driving our Audi insisted on becoming our personal driver for the night. This was of course negotiated in a mix of French and English, and in the midst of him answering one of his 4 phones and walkie talkie.
It’s funny how alive you feel when whizzing around windy, snowy, mountain roads with a driver who is speaking on two phones simultaneously in two different languages… and when I say “alive” I really mean terrified and moments away from a heart attack.
Thankfully we survived, but all the panic had us worn out so back at the after party we plonked ourselves on the first seats we found, which happened to be at the Cartier Polo Team’s table.
In a very embarrassing moment I refused to believe that our new friends were part of the polo team until I was given photographic proof… it was dark in there!! Major props to them for laughing about it.
All in all a great night, though getting up for the Final was rather difficult, but we managed! The Final was a replay of the Cartier – Maserati match.
Very exciting, with Maserati cinching a win in the end.
What a trip… I already can’t wait for next year!!
