Surviving a Hurricane, NYC
New York is always a good idea!
This is how I reassured myself after booking tickets on the whim to fly all the way across the Atlantic for a long weekend.

In fairness returning to Dublin after being away all summer was quite the downer, it also didn’t help that I was homeless for a good two weeks UGH.

As soon as stepped into the airport on Thursday afternoon my mood lifted, NYC here I come!

Once I landed I made my way to see my friend Anjli who is a real smarty pants and is studying law in Columbia.

I was so wrecked on the first night that we just caught up on all the news at home and planned brunch for the next day.
We headed to The Smith on the Upper West Side, a sleek restaurant with a casual vibe serving all the American classics.
Before leaving for New York I have to admit that I did a bit of research on good photo spots in the city and found this list from the Business Insider…
I know it is totally uncool to say this influenced where I went but hey, I have no shame! Next stop was the Mandarin Oriental to snap that photo you see on the article.

Tea at the Mandarin Oriental turned out to be a excellent decision. It was horribly rainy at this point and it was the perfect place to escape the weather and drink endless cups of peppermint tea.
Things got rather exciting when the guy sitting next to us started loudly divulging all the details of his recent divorce and new dating life.
-> I did try and search for the exact dress I am wearing but I couldn’t see it so here are a few cute alternatives for the fall season!
After an excessive amount of eavesdropping on all the juicy gossip from the table next to us, our day suddenly got even more exciting when we bumped into the President of Rwanda… casual! Obviously the Mandarin Oriental is the place to be!
Filled with ample amounts of tea we attempted to brave the rain and wind, and walk around Central Park.
Needless to say that plan was swiftly ditched as my umbrella seemed to have taken on demonic characteristics and kept blowing inside out.
Our next escape was Voila Chocolat, a gourmet chocolate shop where you can make your own chocolate or just drink it.

I went for one of the best inventions of all time… a Matcha Hot Chocolate!!
SO GOOD!
I promise we took a break before eating again but I have no exciting photos to share so I will move on straight to dinner.
We went Lombardi’s, New Yorks very first Pizzeria, which opened in 1905.
I would say how delicious it was but I think the photos speak for themselves, mmmmmm….
Before calling it a night we made one more stop. Anjli lead the way and I thought she was brining me to my untimely death as we wandered around the back alleys of Chinatown on the Lower East Side.
Finally through an unmarked door beside a barber shop advertising $5 haircuts and a dodgy looking dim sum joint we arrived in Apotheke.

This speakeasy style bar is designed to resemble an old school pharmacy complete with bartenders in white lab coats and alcohol being stored in large brown medicine bottles.

As far as first days go… this one was awesome! Can I move in with you Anjli? Pretty please?
