Top 5 Things To Do in Budapest

It has been a while..

My apologies, I am currently drowning under a pile of notes and text books. My alter ego is actually one of a struggling medical student, which is why I much prefer to talk about travel. So here goes.. My Budapest Top 5!

1) Get snap happy at Fisherman’s Bastion

I challenge you to find a better Instagram spot in this city. Even if you are not into Instagram (shock, horror) the view from the Fisherman’s Bastion is beautiful and well worth the trek up the hill… or the journey in the bus if you are sensible and lazy like myself.

2) Treat-yo-self to afternoon tea at the Four Seasons in the Gresham Palace

It may be the most expensive cup of tea in Budapest but it is so so worth it! I fell in love with the interior of the Gresham Palace last time I visited the city, and I couldn’t wait to return. It did not disappoint, the design is fabulously elegant.. and a little chocolate cake never hurt nobody.

3) Go for a dip at the Szechenyi Baths

Ok, confession… I never actually took a dip in the baths. It was raining and there was a queue, two things I dislike intensely. I did however, snoop around the building and it was gorgeous… and I have it on good advice that by not swimming I made a big mistake, possibly the biggest mistake I have ever made… (Thanks Michael!).

4) Wander across the Chain Bridge from Buda to Pest… or Pest to Buda, you crazy thing!

There is something wonderfully calming about rivers. I find that they provide a perfect escape from the chaotic city streets. If river gazing is your thing then Chain Bridge is a must, it is Budapest’s most beautiful bridge and it provides the ideal location to watch life on the Danube.

5) Head to a ruin bar for gin and tonic o’clock!

Budapest is famous for it’s ruin bars. Szimpla Kert is one of the most popular bars, it tends to fill up so get there early. Another good spot for a more relaxed vibe is Mazel Tov, also in the Jewish Quarter and just round the corner from Szimpla Kert!

Alright, back to the books I go! Dreaming of travel…
