Weekday Breakfast at NoMad NYC

It can be surprisingly difficult to find a good mid-week breakfast spot in New York.

Weekends, sure, every street side cafe suddenly turns into the ultimate brunch destination. There is an endless list of funky eateries serving up beautifully presented eggs florentine and blueberry pancakes.

Come Monday, it all changes, it’s as if there is a 5 day ban on hollandaise sauce.

This sad fact did not deter Anj and I on my recent trip to New York, we scoured the internet for the best midweek brunch spots in NYC and finally agreed on NoMad, a trendy boutique hotel on 28th and Broadway.

The NoMad Hotel was opened in 2012 and was designed by Jacques Garcia, who took inspiration from his apartment in Paris that he lived in during his 20s.

It must have been some apartment! This place is tres chic, in an off-beat kind of way.

The lobby is dark and decorated with old school patterned furniture complete with fringes.

To get to the dining room you have to push aside this heavy, black, velvet, drape, and ta-dah you will find the light.

An enormous skylight if you will.

For breakfast Anj went for the crepes, which were stuffed with a sweet cheese and cherries.

I did  have a sneaky bite and they were delicious! Definitely on my list to try next time.

I went for the eggs benedict (surprise), served with crab and tarragon. Yum!

After breakfast we went for a wander around the bar. There was a definite Asian fusion theme to it… and yes, the massive gong on the wall is probably my main reason for thinking this.

The rest of the walls were lined with books.. of course it being hipster-ish in style meant that it was far too dark to actually read anything but it looked cool!

I really loved the vibe of the bar; the design was interesting, and it felt up-market and cosy at the same time.

It being 8 am on a Monday morning we didn’t pause for a drink, we also had an adventure beckoning… On the way to NoMad I had forgotten my phone in the back seat of the cab, despite being convinced it was a lost cause, Anj decided to text it with her number. Incredibly, just as we finished eating we got a phone call from a man called Danny who had found my phone! As soon as we got the call we jumped into a cab to go and find him. Such a lovely New York moment.
