Winter Wonderland Ball at the Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai
What better way to impress than to have giant ice sculpture decorations in 35°C heat ?
Welcome to Winter Wonderland
If I were to say one thing, the Taj Mahal Palace definitely knows how to throw a party!
Crystal Ballroom at the Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai
The theme was followed through in exquisite detail, from the beautiful entrance way…
To the decorations in the Crystal Ballroom…
Our table decoration
To several servings of wintery drinks!
Frosty Jello Shots
The ball was for NYE 2016 – I know this is slightly overdue my apologies – and it was one of the multiple celebrations that the Taj was hosting on the evening.
White flowers and white candles decorated the glass case under the bar
We started off the evening by posing for a few family photos in the snowy entrance way.
We then moved inside the gorgeous ballroom where the champagne was flowing. The service was incredibly attentive, I was impressed with how graciously they accommodated our numerous requests to change table to get the optimal noise/atmosphere mix… yes we are those guests that everyone hates eeek!
Shortly after, there was a parade of white-gloved waiters offering alpine style drinks!
Rich Hot Chocolate
Of course, much to my mother’s embarrassment, I had to try absolutely everything!
Fruity cocktails
Our waiter was kept very busy!
Frappuccino – ok not exactly a winter warmer but it did fit the cold theme!
My favourite was a cocktail disguised in an ice-cream cone!
Surprising strong alcoholic cocktail hidden inside the cone!
Dinner was served as a buffet in the adjacent room.
Even the food was icy..
Garnishes for your oysters
Vodka as it should be – served at below freezing temperatures
For my favourite part of the meal, dessert, I opted for a selection of sweet treats including toasted marshmellows! YUM!
For the entertainment they had several DJ’s who at the start played Western hits but then quickly changed to the Bollywood Top 100 which was great fun!
I have gone to a few balls, but I have honestly never seen such epic dance moves as what was happening on the dance floor in the Taj! There were 60 year olds who were breaking it down and putting us 20 somethings to shame.
Also entertaining us was a magician who made rounds of the room. It may sound rather cheesy and at first we were cold and stoney faced when he approached, but he soon had as laughing and asking to see more.
All in all it was an excellent night and easily one of the best New Year Eve’s that I have had. If you want to read more about my stay at the Taj Mahal Palace check out my review post here.
I hope everyone is having a good 2016 so far!! I am off to watch the Snow Polo World Cup in St. Moritz tomorrow and I could not be more excited!
